Valley Conservatory is committed to enriching the Huntsville community through concerts, educational events, workshops, festivals, and collaborative performances. Our Community Outreach programs bring students, professional musicians, educators, and audiences together to celebrate music while creating meaningful opportunities for learning, artistic growth, and cultural enrichment.

Valley Conservatory Lyceum Series
Masterclasses, Concerts, and Artist Residencies
The Valley Conservatory Lyceum Series was established is 1999 as a means of providing cultural enrichment to the community through concerts, master classes, lectures and arts programing. The series also serves as a medium where students are provided an opportunity to interact with performing artists in an informal and formal setting through master classes, lectures and concerts. In addition, the Valley Conservatory Lyceum Series provides performing opportunities for students to play with professional musicians in a mentorship role. These opportunities enhance the development of the student’s musical education by providing them with life experiences that can only be gained through the art of performing. On a broader scale these programs were also taken into the schools to expose students to the arts. Another mission of the lyceum series is to provide a venue for local and professional artists to perform for arts for arts sake. These concerts are community based with the objective of providing cultural enrichment to the community. The primary aim is to educate the audience by encouraging dialogue and interaction between the performer and audience.
The first Valley Conservatory Lyceum Series concert was presented on April 12, 2001, on the campus of Oakwood University. This concert featured the Trillium Trio and the Valley Conservatory Chamber Ensemble. Since its inception, the series has presented numerous concerts and arts programming throughout the Huntsville/Madison County community. Today, the Lyceum Series continues Valley Conservatory’s mission of connecting students and audiences with outstanding musical experiences.
Valley Conservatory Jam Session
Community Music for Musicians of Every Skill Level
The Valley Conservatory Jam Sessions were established to provide students the opportunity to be able “jam” with professional artists in a family friendly environment. The jam sessions also provided opportunities for amateur and professional musicians to create music “as equals” in an atmosphere where unity is the goal.
Valley Conservatory Jam Session are community events and are open to the public. The level of the musicians is not emphasized but rather art for art’s sake by providing an environment where musicians of all levels whether professional, amateur or student, can come together to create, learn and enjoy the music.
The first Valley Conservatory Jam session was held in September of 2012. Through the years, we have had a potpourri of various jam sessions including jazz, blue grass, blues and samba. Currently, the VC hosts jazz jam sessions every 4th Sunday of the month, continuing to provide an inviting space where musicians can learn, collaborate, and share their passion for music.
Valley Conservatory Early Music Festival
Celebrating the History and Beauty of Early Music
The Valley Conservatory Early Music Festival, founded in 2013, was created to introduce the community to the beauty and history of early music and period instruments. Each year, the festival brings together musicians, educators, and audiences for a rich series of lectures, master classes, and concerts that highlight music from earlier eras and the instruments used to perform it.
As the only early music festival in the entire Southeast, this event offers a unique opportunity for students, families, and community members to experience music in a way they may have never encountered before. The festival is held annually in September and continues to grow as an important cultural offering in the Tennessee Valley, bringing together performers, educators, students, and audiences through a shared appreciation of early music traditions.
