|Dawn Nicole Forbes was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the second of three children to Gregory and Janet Forbes. From the time she knew what a song was, Dawn has been singing. She performed her first solo at the age of 4 and sang in elementary and middle school choirs, as well as in church and community choirs. When her family relocated to Huntsville, Alabama from Rochester, New York during her high school matriculation, she joined the Oakwood Academy Choir and began formal training under the direction of Dr. Philip Williams.
In her junior year of high school, Dawn began studying voice with Dr. Angelique Clay, a voice instructor at Oakwood University. When Dr. Clay left Oakwood, Dawn continued studying voice with Dr. Julie Moore-Foster. In 2008, Dawn was drawn to the acoustic guitar and studied classical guitar with Professor Emily Jones. She graduated Oakwood with a BA in Spanish and a minor in Voice and Guitar.
During her tenure at Oakwood University, Dawn participated in Dynamic Praise and was a member of the Aeolians, having sung under Dr. Lloyd Mallory (College Choir), Dr. Wayne Bucknor, and under its current conductor, Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand. Dawn is currently pursuing an MS in Speech-Language Pathology at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California. She plans to specialize as a voice clinician, working with singers afflicted with voice disorders.
