Julie Moore Foster

Julie Moore FosterJulie Moore Foster completed a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance at the Mannes College of Music in New York City, where she studied with Peter Elkus, Richard Barrett, and coached with international artists Judith Blagen, Hakan Hagegard, Joan Dorneman of the Metropolitan Opera and opera conductor and coach Benton Hess.

Julie was invited to perform the Brahms Alto Rhapsody with the Markham Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Cotton at Convocation Hall in Toronto, Ontario.

Julie was chosen out of hundreds of applicants by John Holly of the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra of New Jersey to perform a tribute to Marian Anderson, the legendary contralto, entitled “The Lady from Philadelphia”. She received an outstanding review by the music critic Donald Delany of The Times (of Trenton, Princeton). In characterizing the performance, Mr. Delany stated, Ms.-Moore, “was faced with the daunting, really impossible task of attempting to recreate the aura of Marian Anderson, but she did a remarkable job”. In describing Julie’s voice, Mr. Delany wrote, “a wonderful instrument, which she produced without effort from top to bottom”.

Julie performed as featured soloist in a concert performance for and with the Michigan Opera Theater of various show and operatic solo works.

New York Times opera critic, Bernard Holland described Ms. Moore performance as the Ghost Mother in Cesti’s La Dori as, “a striking bit of tone painting”. Also, while in New York, Ms. Moore gave a recital at St. Paul’s Chapel, Colombia University which included the works of Britton, Duparc, de Falla, Faure’, and Strauss.

In Detroit, Julie completed a Bachelor of Music degree at Marygrove College, where she was featured as a soloist in various musical works, under the direction of Mr. James Turner. Her voice teacher was Soprano Caroline Rogers. As a soloist with the St. John’s Episcopal Church under the direction of Organist, Hew Lewis, Ms. Moore received a rich background in sacred music.

While on tour in Britain, Julie was chosen as the Mezzo-Soprano soloist in a B.B.C. televised performance of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Sir Charles Groves.

While a student in Detroit, Ms. Moore was chosen as a soloist on WQRS in a Christmas Oratorio performance at St. Paul’s in Grosse Point, Michigan, under David Wagner. Julie was also a two time semi-finalist as a teenager in the Quest for Excellence Competition for Young Artists.

While residing in Toronto, where she studied with Dixie Niell, formerly of the Metropolitan and Canadian Operas, and International soprano, Stephanie Bogle, Julie performed as a soloist at St. Anne’s Anglican Church for the 3 years. She also performed as a recital and oratorio soloist, and taught voice privately.

Julie completed a specialized course in Vocology, the study of the Science of voice. She received her certification as a Vocologist through the University of Iowa, at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts where she studied with the leading voice scientist, Dr. Ingo Titze. Ms. Moore is a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Julie has toured Spain, performing as a soloist and member of the American Spiritual Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Everett Mc Corvey of the University of Kentucky. She has also been a soloist with the Eugene Brasher Chorale. As a Soloist, Ms. Moore performs regularly at various venues.

Since the fall of 1999, Julie has been a member of the Music Faculty of Oakwood University  in Huntsville, Alabama were she heads  voice studies. She was assigned the directorship of the Aeolians and Oakwood College Choir for the years 2001 – 2004. During those years she produced two recordings of Note with the Choir, and where the choir was chosen to represent the United States in at the Wroclaw Catans International Music Festival in Poland. During her first year of membership in (NATS), The National Association of Teachers of Singing, Ms. Foster’s students won first and third place at the Regional auditions. As well, her students were winners of the Albert Lane and Kenneth Turvey Vocal Scholarships for two consecutive years and the winner of the Birmingham Music club Scholarship Auditions and Best Overall Artist for 2004.

Ms. Foster brought the National Classical Singer competition to Oakwood University, to host a preliminary round. Ms. Foster's student Whitney Morrison is the 2010  National Classical Singer University Competition.

Ms. Foster a doctoral candidate in Vocal Pedagogy at University of America in  Washington, D.C. Moore Foster is dedicated to excellence as a voice and diction teacher as well as a solo performer.
